Does anyone feel like making a journal entry, no matter what the topic of your day might be?

*listens for response* I thought so but I'll go first if ya's don't mind. ;)

Today is dull, rainy and the wind is out and about. I'm currently all alone sitting at my computer and turn my head to look out the window.

As per the usual sight, a single tree draws my attention. The tree not only waves but looks like it's cowering away from something. I don't know what could possibly make a tree cower like that. I know that even if I were to go outside I couldn't help it at all. I can only offer it words of comfort as I yell them from my open window. I check afterwards but to no avail. The tree is still cowering in fear of something. My heart tightens at the sight.

Just when I think the tree is ready to give in, it suddenly straightens itself and gives me one single wave before standing still. Again becoming a sentinel of time, as it continues watching, waiting and occassionally waving.

Tree, I salute you! May you stand forever!

Weather great here looking out the window, it could crack the flags, girls have got the sun beds out.

I got home from work 2 hours OK, to be told the Washing machine gones Kaput. Stripped it down balancing spring as broke and because of this the inner seal as torn and an electrical contact as split

Cost to repair = New washing machine

Had to call the local beekeeper/pest control guy today to pay us a visit. It seems a swarm of honey bees found a small hole in the siding right outside the bedroom window. He showed up at 2:00PM and sprayed them, they're slowly dieing now, how sad! He said there was no chance they were africanized honey bees, thankfully.

He also suggested a termite inspection and mosquito spraying all for the low, low, new customer rate - how convenient...

UGH it is HOT here. not just HOT but HUMID and HOt. ICK!

Talked to Mom today....she and Dad are taking Robbie and Heather camping. She has never been so I was giving her tips and explaining how to make Smores and roast hot dogs on the fire. I wanna go SO BAD! Especailly when she said that the weather there is in the low 70s and around 50 at night. B***h! LOL. Maybe we can get her to watch the kids in October or November and I can get Chris out to Fort Clinch to go camping once the weather cools off and the bugs go away.

I have too much crap planned in November. the anime convention, the boob job (haha) and now camping. *sigh*

Curves again tonight, will be good to jump around and exercise away from the kids for a bit. SO READY for a break!!!

Am so close to getting 100 posts on the DA site....don't want to make it look like I am just rambling to get posts though. as much as I hate Neffers, i ond't want to become one.

Its hot here too keeb. Sticky....yuck. But, it is a good today, becuase I am finally getting to spend a little time with the folks. I know I told you all they were coming, but the night before they got here I came down with one wicked virus, and basically have been in bed most of the time. But today I finally feel better, and when I got home they were here waiting for me. They were afraid to come down from my sister's fearing they would get it too. If you would have heard me on the phone you would know why...lol.

Lots of good threads to reply to today, but it will have to wait for a while :). I like this one SQ, good job.

Not much of anything to do today so why not a discussion with self.

SirQ asks Self: "Did you ever wonder what the world would be like without a smile?"

Self asks SirQ: "You mean the world has facial expressions?"

SirQ: "Well, only when you're looking directly at it."

Self: "Oh, I guess I've never looked it right in the face then before."

SirQ: "Sometimes it has little beady eyes that shift from side to side. They tend to never look you straight in your eyes either. Of course, other times its eyes are full of warmth and your gaze is drawn in to the depths of its stare."

Self: "Right. So you're saying the world has eyes and you can see its eyes seeing and it can see your eyes seeing its eyes...?"

SirQ: "Can't you? There's also other times when its eyes lock onto yours and you can't seem to pull away no matter what you try to do."

Self: "Okay, the world has eyes and facial expressions. There. I agree with you. Now can we stop talking to ourselves and go do something else?"

SirQ: "Great idea, I was just thinking the same thing. Yes indeed, great minds do think alike."

Dear Diary

Had day of work today and thought thats 12 hours solid of guess what and my parcel from Darrell arrived my second copy sacred (Gud on ya m8) yes what a day to day should have been.

Wife thinks i'm dodgy dealing again after my last escapade with parcels from Australia, so got kicked out of the house at 8 a.m this morning and forced to go and buy new washing machine (should never have let her see my pay slip)

wife also thinks me and darrell are a pair of first class joey's because she keeps saying why wait all that time for the parcel when all you needed was the Key Code he could have PM'd you those.

Dear diary,

My day has been even worse, from a different perspective. I hate using the delete or redirect to mods section for revue button. When I do I feel as as though I am infringing on members rights, but on the other hand if I don't what will be the ramifications of non action. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, oh well, guess I'll just go push another button(the one that drops ice cubes into my scotch glass):%
On a brighter note I get to go see my brand new (just delivered from the factory) grand daughter. I'm in love with another female thats not my wife and she is only a couple of days old.
On the down side, I have to give her back to her mum and dad, they won't let me keep her, inconsiderate sods. Welcome to the world Bianca, a little miracle made by the grace of God.

Got into some more trouble today, spent a lot of money on clasical music disks and a special disk player for the little miracle, I wired her baskinet and cot so she could listen to clasical music on a sub conscious level, got caught by her mum and dad and severely admonished for spending the money. They insisted that I return the disc player for a refund, but didn't say anything about not getting and MP3 player, so problem solved(by the time they find outits connected it'll be too late eh eh). I am determined she will get some K and K (Kouth and Kulture) regardless of the consequences. I can see what mum and dad can't, long slim beatifully formed fingers, perfect for the violin or piano. The worlds going to be her oyster or I'll or.. ah sorry got a bit carried away there.

By the way anyone got a spare shotgun, I sold mine after I pulled it out of my daughter's fiance trousers just prior to their wedding. Not that I'll need it for a few years, but better prepared than not, this little one is going to be a heart breaker, she already has mine firmly in her grasp.

Yesterday was just no fun. I awoke with a second day of swelling at my jaw line and called the dentist. He saw me around noon. After an x-ray and much poking and pushing, he told me I need a root canal. I started on an anitbiotic and scheduled the procedure for Monday morning. Oh boy, can hardly wait. Not much pain, just swelling. Will spend some time playing UW to get my mind off this over the weekend.

First cup of coffee, read forums.
Second cup of coffee, log into Sacred to work on Battle Mage. Using a lot of ring of ice (always makes me think of Tip's first post on official forum). Man what a spell. Cast it, remember post, cast it, think of Tips, his ears must really be burning.

Left Sacred to reset due to lag. TankKnat and Elita talking jibberish about WOW in game. Love to see folks enjoy games. TankGirl lost another dwarf, lol, back to WE she goes.

Break then back to Sacred. Hope to see more DAer's in game. Big hugs to all of my DA family.

Chris has been taking Alexis to gym for a few weeks now. They apperently have a new teacher and her teanaged daughter (or older teen...?) is in training to be the teacher....

Anyway, Chris just called me and told me that Alexis' new gym class will be Tuesday nights at 6pm starting in August.

"But she's not 5 yet...." (me)

"Yeah, but they are moving her into a Team with set leotards...."

YIPPPEEEEEE!

The teacher told Chris today. She is pulling Alexis and one of the other girls from her class (3-5 yo class) and moving them to the team on Tuesdays!!!! TOO COOL!!!

The team leotard is 25.00 but that is no biggie. I will be taking pics once she gets the leotard and will post them. hehe!!!

(oh, and she has been doing gym since May 2003) I am so happy right now!!!!

The root canal procedure went fine. Took some really neat pill an hour before the procedure started, had my wife drive me to dentist's office. The dentist game me two more little pills and the next thing I remember was the dentist saying, "We're almost done, just need to fit the temporary cap and that's it." Ten minutes later I was on my way home - no pain and no memory of the drilling. I'm such a wimp when it comes to these things.

Slept off the anethesia effects for a couple of hours when I got home, but was a little dizzy most of the day.

Last night I entered Teamspeak and was met with Steve and Omi. Tip joined in (he's feeling better, and almost has a normal voice again!)

Omi and Tip teamed up in Gold...using characters just slightly higher than my daemon. So, I bit the gold bullet. My daemon was running around still in bronze at 66.

My daemon was cleaning up the Sakarra nest in bronze...and was leveling so fast! Wow!

By the time I extricated myself, Tip had signed off. I jumped up to gold and Omi helped me get rings with Meditation requirement to break the requirements for Thain's axes and Fadalmars. Thanks again Omi.

Omi had to go...

So I ended up in Gold on Volcanoe Island. Me, Frosty, in gold! :)

So far she is using Blazing Disc (combo for higher levels), Infernal Power (power up for fire damage) and Soaring Daemon for defense. I'm thinking Dread needs to start happening...And maybe Call of Death. She's getting hit too often, too hard.

Anyhoo---I'm celebrating: gold! And Thain's axes are working now! Go duel wield...looking forward to Fadalmar's when I find 'em! :)

--------

Teamsspeak allows people to still play, and communicate. That is sooo great!

Even if you don't have a microphone, and are on dialup...teamspeak (free software) is worth it. Without the mic, you can type your responses--providing your in the same server...and you're more likely to be in the same server...since people will want to seek you out. It is just soo much more fun to play this way. :)

A late day waking up after a great night playing with Elita and Wrage. I direct a quick wave at the tree outside, acknowledging its existence and ponder on with my thoughts. Or maybe the flowers will open up and speak...

Dear Diary: Today is a good day. The president spent some time with me today outlining their plans for me.

Looks like a bunch of software development is on the horizon. Hurrah!

Last night I got to see preview of "Land of the Dead" with a friend...and that was nice. I also spent some time in UW levelling my daemon. The sakkarra nest is a great place. Say Wrage trying to login...but couldn't connect. Said "Hi" to Darrell on teamspeak...always a pleasure to speak to a gentleman!

Late last night our out of town guest arrived. He'll be around for a few days...so suddenly I don't know how much time I'll have for UW... Hafta spend time on the guest. Bizarrely enough, he spent a lot of time last night on yahoo messenger. Perhaps I will have time for Sacred after all! :)

Spent most of my gaming time last night trying to connect...i hate dialup...

Finally got on and the wait was worth it! Had a great time with SQ and Elita, deamon is very powerful! Dwarf is very ugly! Or maybe that was who was playing it, not sure ;) Elita and SQ are a lot of fun! They can dish out and take teasing, my favorite thing to do (other than scaring the bejeebers out of people - or wrestling around) Plus got to get the extra skill points in bronze even though I was lvl 63, so now I can get them in silver and up! Yeah!

Tonight supposed to go back to S+ with Mortis - haven't played with him in awhile so should be fun!

Arrrrggg....real life. My oldest son't car died 2 says ago. So now I am on a different type of quest. To help him find 4 wheels that operate efficiently, and dependably.

Also tonight, the Detroit Pistons, will be playing the 7th and final game, trying to win their second straight NBA championship. I like them mainly because, although there are no real superstars on the team, they play together as a team so well, they are almost impossible to beat, in a deceiding game such as this. Their unselfish play is great fun to watch. So later tonight, I will be glued to the telly.

Teamwork baby....GO PISTONS!!!

Dearest Diary,

Cologne is going completely crazy with the soccer worlchampionship held here next year and also with the more immenent world-youth-day and the visit of the pope in august. So many things are being rebuilt and reshaped and remodeled and re... I don't know, but it just blocks everything, causes traffic jams and hold-ups and the posters and adds everywhere are starting to get annoying. What really scares me though is the thought of a million tourists traipsing all over town. Twice! Life as I know it will be over... :p
The overly hot (over 35 C.) weather is not helping and we (some students and a prof) had to fight our way through several churches during an excursion trying to see some paintings on the wall and ceiling done in the middle ages. Not much fun. We're actually supposed to be on strike (the students of Cologne that is), but somehow it seems to be a rather half-hearted action to stop the university fees we all have to start paying next summer. Yes, so far you don't have to pay for Uni in Germany, one of the reasons I'm studying here. Anyway, we were running around the city in the boiling heat, surrounded by throngs of people, when one of the girls actually had a heat sroke! Poor thing, we took her to the hospital and then continued our oh so lovely slouching along. If anybody ever again accuses students of being lazy, I will personally torture them with just such a trip!!! :%

Felt like a right joey last night, H2O (the 3rd) finaly makes it back to level 60 and ventures in to the clan gold server for the first time and wonders why he his struggling with Goblins in silvercreek.

After some investigation here is why

Boots = Max level 10
Gloves = Max level 6
Greaves = max level 9
Dagowits, Arms bands and belt = Max level 19.

All 4 rings had not been upgraded since Level 10.

Yes it is amazing i managed to survive to level 60.

Last night the house was turned topsy-turvy.

The couches and loveseats from the living room were moved into the dining room by gremlins Monday night. In their place: row on row of folding chairs.

The house had been prepared for Tuesday night: a play called "Tracks". Tracks is a one-man play set in 1892 about hoboes riding the trains. It is full of lingo from the time and specific to hobo-ery. Written by a Canadian playwright (T J Dawe), based on a book (The Road) by Jack London {who WAS a hobo!!!}. To read more about TJ Dawe, look here:

http://www.pkfproductions.com/tj.html#press

The play was performed by John Huston, a middle aged fellow who does a wonderful job! He tours Canada mostly doing Fringe Festivals. Top notch performer.

Back to back: Tonight we have performing ("Live at home") Heather Dale. She sings songs she's wrote about Arthur and the knights of the round table. She has a beautiful voice, and, I'm told by Dave, a guitar officionado, that's she's a great guitar player.

She had a Canadian tour last year, and this year she's coming through again. She started this year in Halifax (east coast), and she's made it to the middle. After her performance, she'll be staying with us for 5 days, playing the tourist.

Heather Dale has a website here:

(with photos)
http://www.heatherdale.com/

And to entice you even more, ummm, she's a looker!

====
Interesting trivia: A lady who saw her in Halifax this spring, went to her webpage. She found out Heather is playing at our house tonight...so she called long distance from Halifax to reserve a seat! Turns out, the lady is moving to Winnipeg...she got here (the city) yesterday. So, web advertising sometimes really works!

So a busy time in the Bhigghouse tonight!

===

Last minute friend:

A friend of mine called ME today (I'm not the organizer) to see about getting a seat. I told him I'm sure I can get him a seat--and that the show is 7:30. Had I known the show time, I'd shaved a 1/2 hour off it...to guarantee when he comes late that he'd actually be on time... :)

I called the organizer (E.T. phone home!) and found out Heather's show has sold out: 45 seats! Wow! That's a lot! Keep in mind we have a regular sized living room and dining room...

Full house tonight!

Dear Diary...

Another bittersweet night last night.

On the bad side I spent over an hour attempting to log into a game - ANY GAME, tried gold, silver, bronze, public, private...EXTREMELY frustrating!! I think of all the play time lost in loading...GRRRR!!!!

Then on good side I finally saw Mortis! Great to have him in UW finally!! I also saw Fyrth in game and was able to get him started on his UW journey as well - I just wish I would have had more stuff for a dwarf :( Later knuckles joined my game along with Lord of Milk and Madder. We were doing the wanted/reward quest - knuckles and LOM were MEGA helps (Actually knuckles did all the work I just teled in and teled back to the wanted sign :)) and LOM helped in a couple tough spots - this was the highlight of the night!!

But then, trouble would strike again...my computer locked up as I was finishing up the quest (We must have done about 20 of the 21), I CTD restarted then couldn't log back in again...ended my night in frustration once again...

I was tempted to try out a 12 guage on my modem but thought better of it...one of these days though I might see what 00buckshot will do to a piece of silicon and plastic...

Dear Dsiary,

Just returned from a weekend away celebrating our wedding anniversary. Stayed at the Gold Coast Jupiters Casino, had suite on the 15th floor with panoramic viewes of the Gold Coast.

First day/night; Did the shop till you drop bit with Jude, then later after dinner did the hold hands and go for romatic walks for several ours(short interlude in suite;) ), then parteee till dawn( nightclub crawl).

Second day; 27 Aug our actuall anniversary date. Totally surprised Jude with her pressy, few weeks back I had bought her personalised number plates to put on a car we had bought a short time ago, I told her the plates were her anniversary present, but that I would get around to changing the rego papers so that we could put the new plates on the car after our anniversary. After breakfast I suggested we go for a drive to a few of the small beaches, she wasn't really keen to go driving, but I insisted so I got her to call down to have the car brought round. When we got down to valet service Jude was looking round for our ford, nowhere in site:eek:. I then said to her "hey look at the plates on that Nissan X Trail over there , they are just like your personalised ones, that can't be right, no one else can have the same plate, better check it out", it was at this time that she noticed the big pink ribbon wrapped around it and started to twig. Anyway, after some squeels and so on we went for a drive in her new wheels, I think I'm in the good books (well for a week any way). No frying pans, for a couple of days anyway.

That night we went to a dinner theatre venue, started at 6 for 6.30 and didn't finish untill 3 am the next morning. It was a Dracula theme entertainment show. We had a party of eight (All freeloading relies of course), and man can they drink, I only had a couple myself of course, when I got the bill I allmost fainted:eek:$800.00 for grog, next time it'll be bring your own snags on a barby:D

Anyway to cut it short, we had a most memorable anniversary, my only regret is that we couldn't do any dancing (my knee joints explode just at the thought of it and I love dancing). But the main thing is that my beautifull wife and I reinforced that we still love each other as much today as we ever have, for us every day is an anniversary.

Dear diary,

Oh dear, he woke up this morning and I swear he's 2" taller! How can this happen to my little guy! He started 4 lbs., 2 months premature and now at 13 he's taller than me (me being 5'8 1/2"), and feet that are dangerous due to being so enormous. I wonder if any other parent has this happen to them, put them to bed babies and wake up - poof, grown men/women!

I shall have to concentrate harder on preparing him to be a good husband as I can see the day will be here sooner than my poor heart can fathom! Sob.

Today my love and I sat on a blanket under the trees.

The sounds of summer, which winter all to soon will silence, we discussed at length. The birds chirping, the dogs barking, the sounds of the wind in the trees. We discussed the smell of the flowers and the feel of our hair blowing in the breeze.

The wonderful moments we shared today I will cherish through the years. To love and be loved so completely, ah and to know this love is forever, warmed my heart more than the sun warmed my skin.

I look into those wonderful eyes, blue as the sky, and commit my every energy to loving you! You stare at me with smiling heart and say, "Hi baby" like only you can. Then through the smell of the flowers wafts a different odor. "Oh dear, my love, you need a diaper change!" To which you reply, "Hi baby!"

Today my love and I sat on a blanket under the trees.

Tuesday night: Bowling with Hydro. Went bowling as a spare Tuesday night. Great group of people. Lots of fun. Was even amused by Walter, a retired fellow who told me I'd better not be a Ford guy. (I have a Ford Taurus, 1998). We joked about "Found on Road Dead", "Fix or Repair Daily".

Wednesday night: Ruth's Birthday dinner part Deux. 2nd attempt to go to our favourite (Ruth's and mine) El Salvadoran restaurant. La Fiesta Caficito and Bakery. Wonderful meal (as always) --and as usual we bumped into Kat n' Nat, a couple who're getting married this week. {We often seem to just end up at the same place as them--whether its concerts, restaurants, or walks}. Great gals. Dinner was fab. Even better...our roommate Dave paid for it! :)

Yipes!!! Congratulations SirQ on keeping your Dad!!!!

Dear Diary:

Well I did it!!! I beat the stuffing out of my friend who got me to go bowling with Hydro!

She bought new bowling balls (new to her at least) at a garage sale for a fraction of their normal price...got 'em shined up...and had her initials engraved on 'em...

Then, she used them for the first time last night... and did very badly with 'em. I joked with her that I'd use her new balls...and she said, "Go right ahead."

So I did. :)

And I beat her all three frames!!!!

Woohoo! Bragging rights!! She's never gonna hear the end on this one!! (At least until she gets me out again and teaches me a lesson!)

Victory is mine!!!!

My female friend from France came to visit on Sunday. She'll be with us (which is down to just me--the others have all blasted off to other parts of the city/city/world/world) for just over a week.

I expect I won't be online much during that time!

I bought some nutella for her before she came...and then discovered that she's not eating it anymore!! In fact, she's changed her diet 180 degrees....healthy only, and low on starches. She's lost 28 pounds!!!

She's still as charming as ever...and, get this, she thinks I'm cute! (for buying her the nutella--which showed I was thinking of her before she got there).

I'm cute! I'm cute! I'm cute! (a la Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! {third time's a charm}). ;)

Yesterday was a great day. I had been preparing for a big presentation for a $6million account over the last month. A couple of weeks ago, I got all of the financial information and it looked like our plan was going to cost the client an additional $500thousand per year. I thought for certain I would see a pink slip. However, over the last week we changed the focus of our sales pitch and went down a different avenue - potential savings $2million per year! We pitched it to the customer who was extremely interested. No pink slip for me!

Well last night my cousin had his highschool graduation party. The whole family went, although my mom, dad, and youngest brother went home early. The main attraction at the party was a gigantic bonfire. After my parent left, marshmallows were given laid out. There were about 4-5 packages of mallows. Because of the rapid consumption of 10+mallows, everyone under the age of 13 is on a sugar high. Soon mallows are being thrown around. The teenagers(me included) don't want to be pelted with mallows. As the eldest guy in family there(my dad and mom were gone so i was sort of in charge of the others) I round up my two younger siblings who are throwing the mallows around, and strictly tell them to stop. It doesn't work. So then I just grab anyone who is throwing mallows and strictly telling them to stop and telling them that they don't want their parents involved. Finally! They stopped! No more mallows are thrown...at us. It seems that with no one pelt with mallows, the gang of kids had a civil war. On one side, my younger(not youngest) brother was the leader with my youngest(not younger) sister as second in command. On the other side, two brothers were in charge. I am happy to say that, although he was wasting mallows by throwing them around, he was not in the bad gang. I am unhappy to say, that there was a bad gang. I learned that the other group of kids was kicking people. These are 6-11 year olds attacking other people. I told my brother he should just stop. Soon someone's going to get hurt and as the leader of one group, blame will fall on your shoulders. He shrugged, and ran off. i continue to attept to stop this "war" but before i can, i hear rumors that my cousin(who's about 9 or 10) was hiding under a blanket, when two boys( the leaders of the other group) jumped on him and were stomping on him and kicking him. A kick landed in his eye. The parents were soon involved and blame was given to the two boys who were leading the "kicking group". Crazy kids! When we got home, i told my parent and my younger brother was given a small lecture.
I still can't believe that 6-11 year olds were beating eachother up. These people were supposed to be nice homeschooled Christian kids.
I went online and talked with TJ before going to bed.

The next morning(today) we were woken up early to do yard work. When I heard that my younger(not youngest) sister was being paid to mow the lawn, while we were being forced to weed the garden. She gets to sit on a tractor, while we have pull out weeds, brambles, and a bit of poison ivy. We(my younger brother and I) thought it quite unfair that she was being paid. If anyone gets paid, it should be us. When we take this argument to the parents, they tell us to work. However my dad was sympathetic to our cause and so my sister did not get paid. So then my mom sees that we should work longer and in the worst part of the garden(the side with brambles and whatnot). My younger sister in ticked at my bro and I. Because of the harder work, my younger bro got to his baseball game late.

I know that compared to some peoples troubles, these are trival things. So i'm grateful that all i have to worry about are kid attacking eachother with fists and having to work harder than normal, instead of worrying about friends shooting eachother or weeding all day just to get enough money to eat.

,a very tired Windex Chugger

What a night you had! I think I would have gotten my relatives out of there and called the police and let them figure it all out! Who would have thought that 6-11 years old could get so vicious..but then again there were huge amounts of sugar, must have seemed like a very short riot LOL

Dear journal,

Got a letter registered mail last Tuesday, asking me if I wanted my gong presented to me by an Staff Officer or a Politician. Hmmn I thought, I thought I had all my silver ware.

Then I read further and saw what it was for. It was for something that happened in 1974, mind you I retired from the Military in Dec 1992. Anyways I just posted the reply with a send it in the post will be fine, nothing else thanks.

The thought of the decoration wasn't a big deal to me but it did trigger several days of nostalgia, reflections of hard times and good times, sadness for comrades I will never see again on this earth and several years in the prime of my life that were lost to me forever.

Looking back I know that to some extent that I am very lucky, because on the good side I have done things and been places the 99% of our population will never get to or see. If they do they will find that civilization has encroached and many of those places have been tainted. Thankfuly some of those places are quite remote and safe for a while yet.

The hard times were those where the bonds of brotherhood were cemented in conditions and circumstances experienced by too few and too many in the last fifty years or so. These memories are vivid and fresh in my mind. Memories of my brothers, not of blood, but brothers bound intangibly together by blood and courage.

I suppose I am a little maudlin because it is only 12 days away from the most important day on mine and millions of others calendar. Armistice Day, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when the war to end all wars official ceased.

There are going to be a few ghosts in my sleep for awhile I think.

The letter made me realise something else too. That I am well and truly past my prime and the things that I can remember being capable of doing I wouldn't even attempt now ( well unless I had a few drinks anyway) I finally realised I am not 6ft tall and bullet proof.

And no journal I have not been drinking. Just coming to face the fact that I have reached mid afternoon in the day of my lifetime and that when nightfall or midnight strikes I will die knowing I have lived an extraordinary life.

And yet it is those very bonds and experiences that has made you into the man who we all love and respect today. Sure you might be a little older - and in theory a little wiser ;) - but to think of all that you have done with your life and the impact you have had on other people and other cultures even! You above probably anyone I know have done things and been places that most of us will never attain. There is much comfort in purpose and I think your life has been full of purpose D. You are some we can all RESPECT (caps intentional!!) for what you have done - but mostly for who you are. Not only have you lived an extrordinary life, you have become an extrodinary person through it all!!

And as far as that whole "old" thing goes - you are only as old as you let yourself be!! (Well not counting the pains and aches and joints and teeth falling out...heh :)) Ok fine - no more 'old Dags' jokes - well not as many anyway - deal? ;)

We all love you ol*...I mean... young man!!!

P.S. What is a gong and what did you earn it for (if you care to share it)

The word 'Gong' is English and Australian military slang for a medal awarded for duty out of the ordinary, though nowadays it can cover all medals earned for service. And no mate nothing spectacular, I was just there, though there is nowhere!

Dags: I have hanging on my wall my Dad's Award detailing that he is an Officer of the Order of Military Merit. That is Canada's equivalent to yours, I'm guessing.

In my Dad's case, it recognizes 28 years of service (when 20 is the normal maximum).

These certificates and medals are just a small way to honour the individuals who have survived. I feel they also honour the lost comrades in a way too.

My Dad was proud to be flown to our Nation's capital (with Mom), to meet the Governor General of Canada, and receive his medal.

But each to his/her own.

I'm very pleased that they have sought to honour you. You must decide how they'll do it yourself. (By the way, my Dad got some other medals...something about X years Clean {aka undetected crime} ;) in the mail. No big for those ones.)

The benefit for a public ceremony is it might get some positive press for the military... there are so many sides to this issue...

Anyway, I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I'm proud to know you.

No Dave, though I have the Australian equivalent of your dad's award, I received that many years ago when I passed the 22 year mark whilst in service. I prefer to have as little to do with politicians as possible. All they do is get photo and media coverage off the back of what servicemen and women do.

This weekend we had a 2 house concerts (both Heather Dale): one Friday night, and one Saturday. We have four visitors staying with us: the 2 performers and 2 guests from Japan. The Japanese guests were invited in September when Liz met them on a train. At that time they were headed up north to work at a resort in Churchill--a Polar Bears touring place.

I squired the Japanese around on Saturday and Sunday...taking them to the zoo, the Grey Cup Parade and to the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature.

I also squeezed a night on the town out of the weekend, and a major shopping trip for this weekend's big party too.

So, somewhere in there I managed a couple of hours on Sacred.

Busy Busy Busy. Our guests leave sometime this week... Next week, we have one or two nights of "A Christmas Carol".

For those curious, here is Heather's webpage (http://heatherdale.com). I believe she has audio clips there.

And my goodness, is it falling fast. Six inches deep, and still going! It's the first snow here in Illinois, besides that snow in the 2nd week of Oct. I'm not a snow person; I just like to look at how pretty the first snow is. :) It's freeeeezzing INSIDE of the house. Hope our grandparents still come today, but with this snow, they might not.......

Anyone else got snow yet (that doesn't live in the Arctic ;))

Well, it is snowing here right now... 2more cm for today.

So, about a total of 10 inches so far this year that stayed... or mostly stayed.

Strangely, we also have deeply cold temperatures too. Must the jet stream dipping south of us...bringing the arctic air down here.

Where I am is farther South than London, and thus most of European Clan DA. ;)

Thank goodness for that. It was 51 this evening. 51 in mid-December in northern Illinois!!!

Today, the fam and I went downtown Chicago to visit the annual Kristkindlemarkt. My wife grew up in Germany, so she was super excited. The market was very reminescent of the markets she and I visted in Nuerenburg, Muenchen, Frankfurt and Hanau. There were tons of people everywhere. While we were waiting in line for a schnitzle sandwich (surprizingly very tasty), Brian spilled an entire cup of lemonade in his lap in the stroller. I yanked him out and there was this huge pool of lemonade. So, I tipped the stroller to empty it just as a lady cut through the line. I got it all over her shoes. Oops! Oh well...

It was a very fun day.

Epilogue

Last week was the worst of my working career so far. And let me tell you dear journal, I've had a few bad 'uns. By the time Friday came, I felt what I can only assume boxers describe as "punch drunk" - that point where you have no idea where the next blow will come from, let alone land.

So when I was told by my "new boss" that i was to go home and take the next four weeks off, I just nodded and went. And you know what? I felt relieved. RELIEVED.

Which set me to thinking - what kind of an emotion is that to feel about a job? that you're actually glad you've been effectively fired. And then it dawned on me last night, after four beers: my job was like some kind of illicit drug. It was screwing up my health, putting a strain on my family and I know that I would have kept on going until I fell down and couldn't get up. Luckily my addiction had been cured albeit forceably, but cured nontheless.

So here I sit at home, watching the family, while starting to think about my next career move. Sure, I occassionaly get withdrawal symptoms - that's natural, but beyond that? I realise now I work to live, and not the other way around.

By the way dear journal, do you have any idea what happened to Xmas? I seemed to have missed it this year. And where did all those toys come from?...

or....how to make yourself unpopular!

for those that don't know I'm Credit Manager for the firm I work for,in really basic terms by department are responsible for collecting all the money we're owed. Another part of this is to review the risk to our business of dealing with new customers on credit terms and making sure we are likely to be paid in the end.

so for the last week we've been holding on to an order because we've not had our application for credit returned, finally it comes back and the customer has crossed out all our Terms of business which pretty much cover us in case things go wrong. A lot of internal banter kicks off and finally we are given an instruction from the sales manager to let the order go......now I dont like instructions like that at the best of times, but this time i had a case of the work place ethics - my job is to minimise the financial risk to my company. If we dont have terms of trade agreed we could, potentially, expose ourselves to £000's worth of risk if our unit went wrong.

So ethically I had to put my foot down and point out the error of ways to one of the senior managers in the business......its nice to feel the vacuum left by everyone else distancing themselves from me on this one...really pleased to feel supported. Damn me and my ethics :s

The winds blow and and the snow flies through the air on this somewhat early morning.

Another headache but that's usual these days. It's a silent crushing greeting of the day that tells me to get up and I say thank ya kindly. Afterall, I do believe it's better than getting woken up by a little menace's sharp paws to one's face.

Venturing to the main floor I'm welcomed by sunlight flooding the kitchen through the windows and again I say thank ya kindly. The beginning of a day that starts out with such warm rays is always to be preferred I would think - and I always do think..

To the opening of the door I go with said menace in tow and wait while he does his business. Freezing already he waits, shaking, for me to open the door. He greets me with his eyes, his tail and a kiss before racing back into the house and upstairs to my wife - and again I say thank ya kindly.

I follow said menace upstairs again and enter our room. I'm greeted with four pairs of eyes, three of which belong to the menace, his older, wiser sister and a half sister that doesn't get on so well with the little guy.

The fourth set however are those of my wonderful wife.

And I say thank ya ever so kindly.

I forgot to mention, or quite possibly haven't gotten around to it (you see I'm always thinking...I think) that my wife and I have had a year of bliss just completed.

February 18th, 2006 at a beautiful church in Kristiansund, NO were we married.

Again, for this, those things said above and much more my ever thinking mind hasn't allowed me to type here - I say thank ya ever so kindly. :)

Dear journal....(have we met before?)

A morning at our home.

Had a bad nights sleep (this is becoming more frequent, and more concerning) and dragged myself out of bed about 5-30am.
Wandered out to the laundry and then to my back room, I must be on remote control as its pitch black, and do the usual early morning routine ........toilet/pills and painkillers/toilet again/turn on pc/go outside and throw our beautiful labrador his ball/ sit at pc.

Check incoming mail.......all for the wife and kids as usual.......and go to two sites when my Internet friends also go (DA is one).
Read all new posts.
Back pain become intense....have to wait till pills take effect.
Youngest daughter wakes up. "Hi dad, can you wash my sports uniform for me?"
Back becomes tolerable.......check my regular online employment sites.......same result "we have no matches for your experience".........must change my experience to something they do match to I guess. :o

Eldest daughter wakes up. "Dad, can you lend me $5 so I can buy some lunch?"
"No darling........dad is broke...ask your mum when she wakes up"
"MUM!...CAN YOU LEND ME $5?"............."Ummmm, sweetie...I did say when mum wakes up...not while she is asleep"
Too late....mum is awake and got the right *not happy jans* now that she has been woken out of a beautiful sleep.

So *Cranky mum*, *No money* eldest daughter, youngest *Partly dressed* daughter and *Back settled* dad converge into the kitchen.
Bad mistake.:(
Four people in a room no bigger than a backyard dunnie just doesn't work very well.
Cranky mum tries to make herself and Back settled dad a coffee.
No money daughter now has to make her lunch that she will have to take in a Tupperware container (that is just not cool!) and Partly dressed daughter cannot do anything as she is too concerned holding a tee towel to cover bits that no one wants to see anyway.

Eventually No money daughter takes her packaged lunch and apple (I always insist she takes an apple, but I'm sure she doesn't eat them) and puts them into a container that kinda resembles a bag, says a quick bye and jumps into her car and drives off.........while Cranky mum frantically call out from the front door "you come straight home and don't stop off at *insert boyfriends name*. I want you here tonight for a family meal!"

Meanwhile Partly dressed daughter has taken her washed uniform out of the washing machine and dried it in the drier (one item of clothing has gone through a wash and a dryer.....who the heck is paying these bills?) :(
Partly dressed daughter is now a fully dressed daughter and has had a piece of toast (try and get more into her..hah) and is running out the front door to catch the bus to school, which probably left about 5 minutes ago.

For a moment there is quiet. Cranky mum and Back settled dad let out a sigh of relief. The coffee that has since gone cold is recycled in the microwave.

Cranky mum turns into Kerry and Back settled dad turns into Steve. Both sit down together in the lounge chair and share a few general comments with each other and genuinely care about what the other says. After almost 20 years of marriage the conversation is still very interesting and complex.

Kerry then goes out to the back room and begins doing her scrap-booking. Steve goes out to the front porch turns around and looks at this house.
Not flash, but tidy neat and comfortable. There is love in this home.

Its a good life. :)

Up early (it's Sunday--my normal sleep-in 'till 9 day). Breakfast: a small glass of orange juice (3 ounces).

Off to bowling tourney. Hot Chocolate cup. Yum.

Bowl well (but not spectacular. Watch the Men's Traveling League to see how multiple high-scoring bowlers bowl--trolling for tips). Hope to go on to the next round.

Stop off at A&W for a Mozza (yeah, I know, bad for me) and a Diet Coke (ditto).

Home: pick up taxes for friend (I did his return for him, he needs to sign the copies before I drop it off {on my way home}), pick up games we might play during my visit, pickup digital camera (so I can take pix of hte cats), pick up receipts for the CD player {4 trips from the car to the house to get everything. It was almost comical. Every time I was about to start the car I'd realize I'd forgotten something else!!}

Visit the friends, take cat pix, play "Ticket to Ride" with "Ticket to Ride Europe" parts. Like the bigger cards for train parts, like the stations, like the Canadian part of the North American map in the original game....

Get the tax forms signed. Leave, drop 'em off on the way home.

Plan to play Sacred --get stuck watching Doctor Who "Season 1" on DvD. (This is the Christopher Eccleston season, which is about season 9). Really, I was just going to watch for Captain Jack... instead...found so much more was going on in the writing than I thought.

Got ready to turn in, and got a call from a fellow I'd met the night before. Got his phone number, and plans to meet this week.

Showered quickly, since the next morning I wouldn't have time: driving housemates to the airport bright and early...before work...

Just as I was going to bed I found an RRSP (tax shelter for old age) form I needed to complete my 2006 taxes. Should get a big tax return now. :) (Without the form, I'd owe them money, now, they owe ME money! Yay!)

All in all, a very good day.

Dear journal....day off work today...so had a lie in..nice.Hope Steve is having a good day today...since his nervous breakdown the good days are few and far between, but the look on his face does not bode well.Being a house husband does not sit well with him,and his moods swing from bad to horrible in the blink of an eye.Had to take David to the Joscentre today to explain yet again that the reason he does not work or sign on is that he is registered disabled, which is why he recieves Disabilty Benefit, crickey he could do their job better than them.Horrible thought, but these days I would rather be at work than at home, still not earning enough to keep house and pay off all my bills from before when we were both working. Getting tired of telling the same people over and over that I don't have any spare money at the moment, tempting to think of just unplugging the phone lol.Still there are many a lot worse of than me,so I will keep chugging along, and hoping that tomorrow is a better day.

So it was decided Julie rang our top customer and got them to invite her over to sort some rejects out etc, so i have now got more traffic than the M25 going through my office.

why am i upset

I cant get an extra 3 hours of gaming in at home in total peace and quitet

I can understand how you feel, BB. Perhaps this cheers you up?

* shuffles a nice ice-cold Pint into BB's office * :D

I had two of those "feels like monday morning" days in the past two days.

Yesterday we discovered one of the raw materials needed to prepare the filling of our products wasn't delivered.
Since we had about 400 KG of that filling left over from wednesday we had about 35 minutes of production.
After that we had two hours of cleaning, before everyone was send home.
Considering I woke up at 2.30 AM, started to work at 4 AM and went home at 8.15 AM; I wasn't pleased at all. Nor were the other 20 workers of that production line and my boss.

Today things went well when starting up, until the moment shortly before the production would start and I discovered one of our belts was damaged.
Took me half an hour to repair that bloody thing, then I was able to run the line for 5 minutes before it was broken again.
So I had to call the mechanics, who needed over an hour to fix it; just to discover it was barely strong enough to last the entire two shifts.
Meaning it was again repaired during the lunchbreak.
And it turned out the reason for this problem is bad material; meaning that belt can be damaged any moment again. (Glad I'm at home now :D )

Being in the Workers Council I've also insight in the finances of the company and when seeing that these two "jokes" cost the company more as I earn a month, isn't making me happy at all.
Especially since the mood among the production workers is near zero for quite a while and knowing they probably have to do some extra working hours to catch up the lost production isn't making things better at all.

On the bright side; Monday is the last time I have to wake up at 2.30 AM for work. After that I can enjoy 2 well deserved weeks of vacation!

Thorin :)

For those of you entering a new chapter in your lives....I am thrilled for you!

I have finally started my own new chapter, my 4th career change, now in its beginning stages. I left the auto industry in '78', not having any idea where it may take me, and landed on my feet quite well. Now, 2 journeyman's cards later, I have finally begun working towards becoming a building engineer, which in turn may lead to a 5th career change, depends on how far I continue in school.

I finally started school again, after being sidelined several times the last couple years. I have a 2-3 year plan going, hope it pans out. In October I will be taking the test to obtain my low pressure boiler license, and will continue from there. I am taking a class called "Creative Problem Solving" at the moment, and so far, it has been a grin. I have to get Associate Bachelor's degree, to be eligible for the job. I am working towards Business Administration(not the easiest), seems to be a good fit though, and am just about 1/2 way there.

And it feels good :)

The magic of Christmas has long gone for me. It held some magic when I was a toddler and I believed in Santa. As I'm not a religious person I don't hold this this time of the year above any other time. Though I understand its meaning, being brought up as a Catholic and all. :%
But I do enjoy that its a time of the year that family gets together. As I grow older I cherish times when the family can sit around a table and talk about their life experience's. Perhaps sad in a way that we need a festive occasion to do that.
This year will be hard for my wife. We are having Christmas day at her aunty's home. Part of the family that will attend will be her closest aunty and uncle. Both have recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Her aunty will be lucky to see out the new year and her uncle has at best one year left.
My wife has suffered so much death in her life. First her brother, then her father, then her fiancee. Now she faces loosing her favourite aunty and uncle that have helped her so much in the past.

This Christmas will be filled with mixed emotions. We know it will be the last we spend with aunty Shirley and probably the last with uncle Lawrence. The whole family wants to make it a joyous occasion but I feel that it will be almost impossible.

So tonight, I have mixed emotions. I am looking forward to meeting up with all the family and at the same time dreading to see how my wife will cope on the day.

So ends todays entry :o

Here I am, sitting at my computer at 12.52am on Christmas morning. The only fat guy with a red nose around here is me. I am starting to think that there is nothing to the story of a jolly fat guy in a red suit hopping from roof top to roof top distributing largess to all who have been good boys and girls for the last year.

I seldom ever go to church, so I think it is being somewhat ingenuine to do one day a year. That doesn't mean that I don't think of what Christmas is really all about. I do say my prayers, just not in a building set aside for prayers, really its just that I think that the whole world is one huge church and I can pray wherever I happen to be, as i do every day.

In this day and age the ideology behind Christmas has largely been lost in a world of commercialism and profit with an ever shrinking community of people around the world who do celebrate Christmas for the reason it came into being. I must admit to aiding and abetting the commercialism of the occasion, as I was and still am guilty of enjoying buying presents for my children and now my grand children.

Perhaps something of what Christmas was all about is still out there and I don't think it will ever be truly be lost, because right at this moment I don't feel any ill feelings towards my fellow man, somewhat sad though because there are those in this world who do have hate in their hearts. Today I will try not to think of the troubles of the world and those who live in dire straights or poverty.

So on this day I wish all a Christmas to be spent in the best way possible that their circumstances allow.

Dags, I want to say something that I believe about Christmas now-a-days. I went to Catholic school when I was younger so I did learn the actual meanings behind Christmas from that view. But I also believe that views change over time, and morph into new, and better, things. Now, I believe, that Christmas may not be about Saint Nick as much as it used to be. But it still has the same amount of love and joy as it always did. People still go through horrible feats just to make their loved ones happy. Not all people who celebrate Christmas and even Catholic anymore, which I believe is WONDERFUL. I mean, when a strictly religious belief has enough impact to spread outside of it's own bounds I think it is a wonderful thing. And every new generation is learning less and less about what the "old" Christmas was really about but making their own views and beliefs.

I don't think it is a bad thing, things always change. And people say change is good, right?

I don't go to church anymore either, ;).

No offense if any was taken.

I feel rather down.
This of all nights when I should be celebrating the new year.

Why you ask?......well even if you dont ask I'm going to tell you anyway. :p

Most people I know think that I'm crazy.........no no, hang on...thats a song.

Most people I know dont really know me. I can come across at times, rather abrupt and uncaring. But thats not me.
Heck.....I even cry when I watch a lost boy and horsie movie.

I can get very upset when I feel my integrity is challenged (even though it never really was) ;)

People in general just dont know me. Oh my mum does and my closest friends and family do but people in the main probably think I am a rude pig.

So why do I feel rather down tonight?
Well one reason is that my family is not together tonight.
My wife and youngest daughter are home but have gone to bed. My son and eldest daughter are both in other states. My mum is with her sister and my wifes mum has dementure. My best mate is having a party 100's of km's away and all our other friends are doing stuff we cant get to.

Theres another reason I dont feel too happy tonight. I've had a gripe in a certain forum that I go to.
In this particular forum I feel the people are as close to me as my "real" friends are. I posted something that was taken the wrong way (I have a knack of doing that) and unfortunately it has blown all out of porportion.

So I'm feeling very alone. Like whats his name in Day of the Triffids.

Oh and another reason I feel rather down (perhaps the main one) is that
the one that rules the rules has told me that the new year will mean a diet and exercise. :%

I feel very alone :(

Life is good, yes it is. I have to say the last few months have been the most positive for me in a very long time. As some of you may know, I am back in school again, its tough, but going very well. I have had opportunities present themselves lately I didn't think would exist, and although, it is going to take a lot of hard work to make it happen, I see no reason it won't. The Dean of business where I attend school, just happens to be one of my instructors, and she was kind enough to set down with me and help map out my next 3 years. So....I will be going to school year round for that period, my only breaks being the 2 weeks between each semester. It puts me on a fast track to finish though, and of course I understand none of us knows what tomorrow will bring, I see no reason this won't work.

The biggest change so far though, splitting from my partner at work. Won't go into details, but after 15 years of being "married" to each other for 8 hours a day (he acknowledged spending more time with me than his wife), it was time for a divorce. I didn't realize how much I wanted this, and I have to say, it was like a mountain was lifted off my shoulders when happened. I walked in, told my boss what was going on, he understood, kind of knew already, and said working separate would be fine. So, within the next 1 1/2 years, I will become a building engineer (boilers), and when my current supervisor retires in 3-4 years, I will be in a great position to replace him. The biggest plus in my eyes though, at the end of my career, I will position myself to be a building maintenance consultant if I so choose. Name my own price, hours, travel when I choose.

Feels good. :)

Well, we just got back from the OB/GYN.

Very happy visit indeed! The first ultrasound. One healthy little baby growing and moving ever so much. About 2 and a half inches in length.

Looking forward to the next ultrasound! :)

Dear Journal:

Here in Australia we have just had the latest report on the burial of one of our soldiers being killed in Afghanistan. The news media were all over this last death, the tenth one of our soldiers killed, and the families grief. What hypocrites they are, sensationalism to sell/attract local readers/ listeners.

What our media neglects to mention is the large number of allied troops killed, preferring to make it a local tragedy. Yes it is sad but the number of our soldiers killed is only relative to our involvement. I think that for most of us numbers killed per country is only a statistic, until it is one of your own, then it hits closer to home and a media frenzy begins. It is pretty much the same with reports of large numbers of deaths for whatever reason beyond our borders, numbers are just statistics until it happens at home.

Trawling the internet and reading foreign news reports humbles me when it comes to our loses in far off places. World wide news seldom intrudes on the Australian public, which I think is not unlike many other countries. There is so much happening around the world of much more importance and topical value than reports by the local media of "dog bite man. man bites dog back" type reports.

I have almost given up reading the local papers. The number of articles of note from over seas is pathetic. I know we are not unique in this, I would guess that most countries are the same and Joe/Jane public would be no more aware of what's happening outside their immediate sphere than we are here.

What really frustrates me is that there is no forum, available to me, that would make any difference to the sad state of affairs of our media outlets. The write in editors columns will not print any anti publisher comments of note. The news channels who invite feed back online, via the internet is a joke, they pay lip service to, if any notice at all, posts by the concerned audience.

Ok I feel a little better, I have had a whinge, though the frustration lingers!

Well, dear journal, a little excitement to end our day.

We had just pulled in the drive after coming home from my parents. I took Rory out of our van and Kristin noticed a spark or two coming from underneath the van. Kristin phoned 911-fire department and I proceed to take what belongings I can get from the van - namely our laundered clothes just brought back from my parents, Rory's car seat and my wife's purse...then it went up like a bonfire.

So, we are without a vehicle for now. Thankfully, the fire didn't touch the house (except for the cover on the hydro meter-melted) and we are okay.

Wow Moe, though you lost your van you got out without harm. A few minutes later and things could have been tragic. I am so glad you are all safe.

cripes mate, you were very lucky. :%

Are they going to do a complete inspection of the car to see if there could be a fault with that model?

Good to hear your family is all okay. :)

So the pictures are still in the works - sod was put down today and the eaves are up so the outside of the house looks great...unexpectedly Kristin was just taken by ambulance to the hospital because of ongoing contractions at 22 wks.

I am nervously awaiting a phone call wondering what's going on while watching our son.

Crossing my fingers for Kristin!

I missed the van fire... you must have a Guardian Angel watching over you... to all get out, and get your stuff out too!

Thankfully it was false labour caused by an infection. The little one is fine and Kristin is home again. Had a friend stop by today and offer us a pine tree for the back yard - should be nice. :)
