Trine

After playing Torchlight nearly constantly whenever I am on the computer since Christmas, I thought it time to give it a rest - although I am getting close to some key achievements: Supreme Slayer (kill 50,000 monsters) and Hat Trick (beat the game with all three classes). During Steam's sale I did pick up a game called Trine (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/trine/index.html). This is a gorgeous 2D fantasy puzzle game where you control a Thief, a Wizard, and a Knight who have been trapped together in one body - or something. Each character has a special ability - the wizard can conjure objects which you can stand on or crush enemies, the thief has a bow to shoot at range as well as a grappling hook to reach high places, and the knight is the toughy. Though it is essentially a 2D platform game (only lateral movement allowed), the environments are richly detailed in 3D. The physics based puzzles can be a challenge as each level has a set number of experience vials located throughout as well as some secret chests with upgraded equipment. As you gather the experience vials, the characters increase in level and can increase their special abilities. I haven't gotten very far, but it is a pretty cool game.

Its a good game for what it is.....a reinvention of The Lost Vikings.
It looks good, sounds good and plays good, if you like playing side scrolling games on the pc.
I have always had a problem with these games and using a keyboard. I end up pressing the wrong buttons all the time. I am not as co-ordinated as I once was.
I played for a few hours but became frustrated with myself.

Speaking of Torchlight, I am currently helping a modder beta test a camera mod.
For anyone who has the Steam version of Torchlight you might be aware that TorchCam (the ability to zoom out and rotate the camera) doesn't work with the latest steam version.
As the original modder of TorchCam is no longer supporting his mod, an other modder is developing his own new mod called Torchlight Cam.
Things are progressing well and we should have a working version soon.

Hi all !

Not keen on Trine, but thanks for the heads up!

I actually uninstalled Torchlight. It got way too repetitive for me.Was fun for quite some time until level 70 something then the old summoner was just way overpowered.Fishing however was kinda fun but that wasn't going to hold me for too long.

Indeed that is the case Peltz....but I found the gamepad controls even more frustrating than using a keyboard and a mouse.

No doubt it's my own fault...we don't have any game consoles in our home. I'm the only gamer and I only play pc games.

So I'm more inclined to be more familar with a keyboard and a mouse....but what is becoming more obvious as I get older, is my preference for mouse driven games or alternatively, keyboard turn based games (so I can take my time before I click on a key).

Heh, it seems we have similiar prefernces. I love turn based tactics games like Xcom series, Jagged Allience series etc. I do have a x360 that i bought for Mass Effect before it went multiplatform (bastards) and now it sits in my summer apartment where i occasionally play some forza on it.

As for Trine, It looks interesting, its worth the price no doubt but i have other games at the moment on my list to play.
